LOCATION
It’s hard to write this part and try to convey in words something that can only be felt and experienced when you are standing in front of the Himalayas, seeing the snow, the glaciers, feeling the energy of this mountain, and at the same time feeling so small like a speck of dust, but also honored that the Mountain is letting you in.
We will walk in the Himalayan Annapurna region, mostly at 2500-3000m altitude. The area is dotted with villages and gives an excellent opportunity to peak at the everyday life of people in these Himalayan villages. The trek stars are spectacular views of snowy peaks that seem so close that you could almost touch them. But walking through jungles, passing hanging bridges, and seeing endless terraced fields will leave you no less impressed. November is the best time to go trekking in Nepal - the monsoon season is over, the sky is clear, and the chances for clear views of the Himalayas are the biggest in November. Temperatures are also pleasant, and instances of rain are quite rare. The closest town is Pokhara, which is for sure one of the most beautiful towns in Nepal, with its magical setting between Phewa Lake and the Annapurna range. It is worth it to spare a couple of days after the trek to explore Pokhara and enjoy lazy days by the lake. |
YOGA & MEDITATION
We will practice once a day in the afternoon to relax and wind down after the hikes, and enjoy the experience of doing yoga and meditating surrounded by the Himalayas.
Ramesh teaches traditional Hatha yoga, enriching his classes with his deep knowledge of yogic philosophy and the history and culture of the region. If you want to know more about Ramesh, click here. The classes are primarily envisioned to be complementary to all the hiking we will do during the week, so we will mostly focus on stretching and unwinding from the daily hikes. However, the retreat will also offer an opportunity to dive deeper into yoga and meditation practice, and to learn more about different spiritual traditions of the region. The retreat is suitable for all levels of yoga, but requires you to be in quite good physical condition because the hiking will be quite challenging. |
PROGRAM
Our days will start early in the mountains. Following a hearty breakfast, we will head out on our daily trail. Every day we will change the place where we sleep, so we will make an early start in order to reach the next destination around lunch time.
The hikes in this retreat are more intense than in our other programs, there is about 5 hours of hiking every day. We will meet in Pokhara on the first day and take a jeep to reach the starting point of our trek. On the last day, a jeep will bring us back to Pokhara, where we will spend another night together to celebrate our Himalayan adventure and enjoy some comfort. These are just a few highlights of the week: 1. Sunrise at Pooh Hill - This is certainly one of the most famous view points in this region of the Himalayas, and for sure for a good reason. We will start the day very early to reach Poon Hill in time for the sunrise. Watching the first light of the day illuminating peaks of 8,000m+ one by one is really a special moment. 2. Hot springs - Close to the end of our trek, we'll pass by natural hot pools located just by a wild river. It will be great to soak in this warm water and give some love to our hard working legs. 3. Ghandruk Village - We will finish the trek in one of the most beautiful Himalayan villages. The village offers majestic sunrise and sunset views of the Annapurna range, beautiful natural setting, and a chance to get to know unique Nepalese culture. TENTATIVE DAILY SCHEDULE
7.00 - 7.45 am - Breakfast 8.00 am - Heading out for the hike 1.00 pm - Reaching the next village, settling in and having lunch 2.00 - 4.00 pm - Free time to rest 4.00 - 5.00 pm - Yoga and meditation practice 6.30 pm - Dinner |
Once we return to Pokhara, we will spend another night together in a beautiful cozy hotel, to wind down, relax, enjoy some comfort and celebrate together the ending of our Himalayan adventure.
IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND BEFORE BOOKING
The rewards of being in this truly special part of the world, getting to know Nepalese people and their way of life in these remote areas are for sure worth it stepping out of our comfort zone and leaving these "luxuries" behind us for a week. |
STAY
During the six nights that we will spend on the trek, we will sleep in six different locations. Each mountain village will have its charm and stunning natural setting.
All the houses where we will be staying will be very simple, providing us with a bed to rest, fire to warm up in the evening and nutritious food to fill our bellies. Accommodation will always be shared and it is possible that we won't have access to hot water in each house. On the other hand, there will always be the view that no money can buy and the warmth and pure souls of our Nepalese hosts that will melt your heart. After we finish the trek and come back to Pokhara, we will spend the last night in a beautiful cozy hotel, giving us the opportunity to pamper ourselves and to enjoy the comforts and pleasures that were not available during the trek. If you are planning for a longer stay in Nepal, and need recommendations of some help with organizing your travels, don't hesitate to get in touch. |
FOOD
All the daily meals are included in the price of the retreat. Each meal will be a freshly prepared meal in the accommodation where we will be spending the night. The extra warm or cold drinks are not included in the price of the retreat.
The food at the retreat will be freshly prepared traditional Nepalese food made up of local ingredients - vegetables, rice, legumes, fruits. For example, the typical meal is dal bhat - a combo plate of rice, lentil soup, vegetable or meat curry, sautéed greens, and some pickles. The best part of dal bhat - you can always ask for as many refills as you like. In this retreat unfortunately we won't be able to accommodate for any special dietary requirements (vegan, gluten free, etc.) because of the remoteness of the location and very little access to products that are not grown in the area. |
