LOCATION

It’s hard to write this part and try to convey in words something that can only be felt and experienced when you are standing in front of the Himalayas, seeing the snow, the glaciers, feeling the energy of this mountain, and at the same time feeling so small like a speck of dust, but also honored that the Mountain is letting you in.

We will walk in the Himalayan Annapurna region, mostly at 2500-3500m altitude. The area is dotted with villages and gives an excellent opportunity to peak at the everyday life of local people.

We have combined two trails to give you the best of both - close contact with the locals, getting a glimpse into a remote rural way of life and experiencing the truly unique Nepalese hospitality and also getting the best possible views of the Annapurna range while staying around 4000m.

The trek stars are spectacular views of snowy peaks that seem so close that you could almost touch them. But walking through jungles, passing hanging bridges, and seeing endless terraced fields will leave you no less impressed.

November is the best time for trekking in Nepal - the monsoon season is over and the chance of clear views of the Himalayas is quite high. Temperatures are pleasant, and it rarely rains.

The closest town is Pokhara, which is for sure one of the most beautiful towns in Nepal, with its magical setting between Phewa Lake and the Annapurna range.

YOGA & MEDITATION

We will practice once a day in the afternoon to relax and wind down after the hikes, and enjoy the experience of doing yoga and meditating surrounded by the Himalayas. Once we reach higher altitudes (approximately above 3000m), we won't be doing yoga as it will probably be too cold outside and we will need to rest and conserve energy for the intense hiking.

Marija teaches gentle Hatha yoga, with a lot of emphasis on body awareness and mindful movement, as well as on the proper alignment, breath and focus.

The classes are primarily envisioned to be complementary to all the hiking we will do during the week, so we will mostly focus on stretching and unwinding from the daily hikes.

The retreat is suitable for all levels of yoga, but requires you to be in quite good physical condition because the hiking will be quite challenging.

PROGRAM

We have created a truly unique itinerary for this yoga trek, combining two trails to get the best out of each.

On the first four days we'll be walking the Poon Hill trek, passing through beautiful villages, being hosted by families that have been living here for centuries. Although we will be staying at around 3000m, the views will still be spectacular, but on top of the views we'll also have an actual glimpse into a different way of life in these remote rural areas.

On the 5th day we'll cross a valley and join Mardi Himal trail, one of the newly open treks that will give us incredible views of the Annapurna range. This trail definitely surpasses in beauty even some other much more known treks. There are no easy treks in the Himalayas, but considering the amount of effort needed and the reward that you are getting, Mardi Himal wins.

You can see tentative daily schedule if you continue reading. Every day we will sleep in a different place, so we will make an early start in order to reach the next destination around lunch time. There will be no camping during this trip, we will sleep in a tea house or a home stay every night.

The hikes in this retreat are more intense than in our other programs, there will be about 5-6 hours of hiking every day.

We will meet in Pokhara on the 2nd of November and take a jeep to reach the starting point of our trek early in the morning of the 3rd. On the 12th, a jeep will bring us back to Pokhara.

Once we return to Pokhara, we will spend another night together in a beautiful cozy hotel, to wind down, relax, enjoy some comfort and celebrate together the ending of our Himalayan adventure.

IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND BEFORE BOOKING
  • - The hikes are physically demanding and will require you to be in good physical shape
  • - We will be hiking 5 - 6, sometimes 7 hours every day, day after day without a possibility to take a day rest and join the group later on
  • - We will have two sunrise walks, to reach Poon Hill (3200m) on day 3 and Mardi Himal view point (4200m) on day 8; Mardi Himal view point will be the highest point we will reach
  • - You can carry your own luggage or you can decide to hire a porter at an extra cost
  • - We will be trekking in very remote areas and access to hot showers might not be possible every day
  • - Accommodation will be very simple, in local houses, always sharing the room with one or two other guests from our group

The rewards of being in this truly special part of the world, getting to know Nepalese people and their way of life in these remote areas, and getting to spend 10 days in the highest mountains in the world are for sure worth it stepping out of our comfort zone and temporarily leaving these "luxuries" behind us.

Maximum group size is 10 guests.

STAY

During the six nights that we will spend on the trek, we will sleep in six different locations. Each mountain village will have its charm and stunning natural setting with snowy peaks at our arm's reach.

All the houses where we will be staying will be very simple, providing us with a bed to rest, fire to warm up in the evening and nutritious food to fill our bellies. Accommodation will always be shared and we won't have access to hot water in each house.

On the other hand, there will always be the view that no money can buy and the warmth of our Nepalese hosts that will melt your heart.

After we finish the trek and come back to Pokhara, we will spend the last night in a beautiful cozy hotel, giving us the opportunity to pamper ourselves and to enjoy the comforts and pleasures that were not available during the trek.

If you are planning for a longer stay in Nepal, and need recommendations of some help with organizing your travels, don't hesitate to get in touch.

FOOD

All the daily meals while in the mountains are included in the price of the retreat. Each meal will be a freshly prepared meal in the accommodation where we will be spending the night. The extra warm or cold drinks are not included in the price of the retreat.

The food at the retreat will be freshly prepared traditional Nepalese food made up of local ingredients - vegetables, rice, legumes, fruits. For example, the typical meal and your best friend in the mountains is dal bhat - a combo plate of rice, lentil soup, vegetable or meat curry, sautéed greens, and some pickles. The best part of dal bhat - you can always ask for as many refills as you like.

In this retreat unfortunately we won't be able to accommodate for any special dietary requirements (vegan, gluten free, etc.) because of the remoteness of the location and very little access to products that are not grown in the area.
